In 1993, Steven Spielberg gave us the Oscar-winning Schindler’s List and Jurassic Park, a visual treat that was also his most enjoyable adventure since 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark. Re-released in 3-D, it’s as exciting and fun as it was 20 years ago. Based on the Michael Crichton novel, it is a tale of science gone wrong as the billionaire John Hammond (Attenborough) and his team extract dinosaur DNA from amber and use it to create a prehistoric theme park on a remote island.
The resurrected carnivorous species are soon chomping on the park’s first visitors. It’s witty, action-packed and gripping, but highest praise goes to the dino special effects – a mix of computer graphics and animatronics. Even if you’ve seen Jurassic Park, it’s hard not to let your jaw drop at the first sight of the prehistoric creatures on the big screen.
