The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF), which runs from December 6 to 14, has announced the first round of films in its Cinema of the World section. The line-up includes the Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi’s drama The Past; the Canadian director Jason Reitman’s Labor Day, a mystery starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin; the fairy-tale-inspired The Selfish Giant from the British writer and director Clio Barnard; Ivan Sen’s contemporary thriller Mystery Road, which he wrote, shot, edited and scored; The Great Beauty by the Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino; and Tenderness, a comedy by the Belgian director Marion Hänsel.

“This year, we are bringing a vibrant and enigmatic line-up of films to the festival,” said Nashen Moodley, DIFF’s co-director of the Cinema of the World programme. “Encompassing emotive dramas, thrilling mysteries and charming comedies, the DIFF Cinema of the World film programme includes some of the year’s most celebrated works.”
