The Children’s International Film Festival (CIFF) opens across the UAE today, bringing audiences a packed nine days of films for children, including both student productions and big-money blockbusters.
The major screenings are focused on the Vox Cinemas in Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates and Abu Dhabi’s Marina Mall, with additional workshops taking place at Ductac, Mall of the Emirates and student screenings at cinemas in Ajman, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.
More than 80 student films were submitted for the festival and these have now been cut down to a “top 30” which will screen over the five days of the festival.
The festival’s workshops cover the whole process of the filmmaking process, from scriptwriting to editing, and one highlight is likely to be a session titled Filmmaking 101, presented by the Emirati director Nayla Al Khaja (May 1, 4pm).
