X-Files actor gets Walk of Fame star

David Duchovny got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, a day after he returned as FBI special agent Fox Mulder alongside Gillian Anderson's Dana Scully in a much-hyped mini-series revival of The X-Files.

“It’s surreal,” said the 55-year-old star. “It’s a surreal moment and it’s a surreal event – everything just feels like something coming out of a movie, in a strange way.”

Co-star Anderson posted a funny congratulatory message on Twitter: “He was a nice man. A kind man. Funny. Quite smart. He liked avocado and Pilates. Actor, writer, director, friend. He’ll always be my shining star. May his soul be forgiven and rest in peace.”

Duchovny won a Golden Globe in 1997 for his role as Mulder, and in 2008 for playing Hank Moody in the hit comedy-drama Californication.

The return of The X-Files, which is broadcast at midnight on Tuesdays on OSN First HD in the UAE, received mixed reviews from critics when it debuted in the United States on Sunday. – AFP

Brian Wilson plans final Pet Sounds tour

The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson has announced what he says will be his final tour Pet Sounds, which is often described as one of the most influential pop albums of all time.

Wilson said on Monday that he plans to play it live at more than 70 shows to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1966 release of his masterpiece. He plans to start on March 26 in Auckland, New Zealand.

The 73-year-old said that the tour would be the last time he plays Pet Sounds in its entirety, which he will do at each show. Although it was released as the 11th album by the Beach Boys, pioneers of the California-pop sound, Pet Sounds was effectively a solo album by Wilson.

He spent months writing and recording songs, incorporating unusual sounds that ranged from a bicycle bell to a barking dog. – AFP
