Ali Mostafa gets ready for Middle East Comic Con

"Don't let it pass you by" is the message of a video made to promote the Middle East Film & Comic Con, which takes place in Dubai this weekend.

The promo's creator, the City of Life director Ali Mostafa, is following his own advice as he will be attending the sci-fi and superhero jamboree.

"I will be on a panel there," he said. "I really am excited that they are doing stuff like this here so I am there to support it as much as I can."

The video features a Star Wars Stormtrooper wandering around Dubai looking sad because he is not at Comic Con.

Mostafa expressed a view shared by many when he added: "I'm a huge Star Wars fan. I'm only talking about the first three, I really didn't like the new ones at all."

Comic Con is on tomorrow and Saturday at Dubai International Marine Club, Mina Seyahi. To see a slide show of pictures from the making of Mostafa's video, go to www.thenational.ae/multimedia.

The Rat Pack coming to Abu Dhabi

The Rat Pack – Vegas Spectacular show will be coming to the capital in June for one night only. Organised by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (Adnec), the show is a tribute to the musical ingenuity of three talented friends and world-famous entertainers: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.

This will be the first time this Las Vegas show is performed in the region.

Christina Anthony, Adnec's sales director, said: "The Rat Pack show promises to be a fantastic, memorable night out. Sinatra, Martin and Davis have sung some of the most renowned songs of all time. But what many people don't know is how they performed together, sharing jokes with each other and the audience, and having unscripted fun. The joy of performance shines through in this show, and it is one not to miss."

Tickets for the June 8 show went on sale yesterday and are available from boxofficeme.com. Prices start at Dh125.

The announcement came five months after Moore announced her split from husband Ashton Kutcher and nearly three months after the seizure-like crisis that landed her in the hospital. The 49-year-old actress has reportedly been seeking treatment for addiction issues and an eating disorder and had been quiet until her internet comeback on Monday, when she tweeted a picture of herself and accompanied it with a single word: "Testing".

Tom Petty's stolen guitars returned

Earlier this week, The National reported that five guitars collectively worth US$100,000 (Dh367,000), were stolen from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. On Tuesday, however, police recovered the instruments and arrested a security guard for the theft.

Police identified the arrested man as Daryl Emmette Washington, 51, of Los Angeles, a private security guard at The Culver Studios. Don Pedersen, the Culver City police chief, said the break in the case came when the suspect sold one of the guitars at a Hollywood pawn shop. On their website, the band offered a "no questions asked" $7,500 reward for information leading to the return of the instruments.
