The British indie rock band, the Arctic Monkeys, took to the stage at Glastonbury Festival yesterday, just in time for the sunshine.
After 18 hours of rain, the sun emerged at the end of the first day of the world's largest greenfield music festival and the Arctic Monkeys were met with cheers as they too brightened up the mood.
They began with their new single Do I Wanna Know? to a crowd of around 100,000 people and cemented their place in the festival history as one of the most successful acts following their debut there six years ago.

Liam Gallagher of Beady Eye performs on the Other Stage at the Glastonbury Music Festival site at Glastonbury

Earlier Liam Gallagher, who led the 1990s supergroup Oasis with his brother Noel, kicked off three days of music with his band Beady Eye at one of the event's 58 stages and other acts Sinead O'Connor, Dizzee Rascal, a red-clad Rita Ora, and up-and-coming Bastille also pleased the crowds.

The year's main act, the Rolling Stones, will play tonight, with frontman Mick Jagger and his designer girlfriend L'Wren Scott tweeting their arrival yesterday. British folk rockers Mumford & Sons will play the main stage on Sunday.
