Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Director: Timur Bekmambetov
Starring: Benjamin Walker, Rufus Sewell
***

Fact clashes with fiction in this action-horror about Abraham Lincoln's (Walker) "secret identity" as a vengeance-driven vampire hunter, fighting in a war for mankind with slave-owners and their undead conspirators.

Filmed in a high-octane, bloody manner typical of the director Bekmambetov (Nightwatch), the story is completely ludicrous but, providing you suspend disbelief, quite engaging and fun. Remaining earnest from beginning to end, Walker's Lincoln may be historically inaccurate, but it is one with presence considering this is the actor's first lead role.

Somewhat more experienced is Sewell as the leader of the vampires, once again proving an effective movie bad guy. A studio film in every sense, this energetic film will appeal much more to horror fans than to historians.
