Abdul Qader Al Rais, one of our most celebrated painters opened a solo exhibition at the Burj Al Arab yesterday.

Thirteen paintings, under the title The Rising sun were unveiled on the 18th floor of Dubai's landmark hotel in the Assawan Amphitheatre.

Inspired by the earthy tones of the desert and featuring mountains, palm trees and old dwellings contrasting with vibrant hues of the sea and beaches, Al Rais' work is immediately recognisable and takes its place firmly as a leader in the UAE's artistic field.

Al Rais was born in 1951 and has been exhibited all over the world. This is the first time he has been shown in the Burj Al Arab. The exhibition was organised by Swiss Art Gate UAE and has been met with much applause from hotel guest and management.

"It is an honour to host the unique portfolio of artworks by Abdul Qader Al Rais at Burj Al Arab and give our guests an opportunity to immerse into the beauty of the Emirati art in the newly created art space," said Heinrich Morio, the Burj Al Arab's general manager. "This inaugural exhibition provides a great platform to strengthen Burj Al Arab's links with the local artistic community".

* The Rising Sun will be on display from 10am-10pm at the hotel until December 4th
