A royal intervention adds a new twist to El Beit episode
Gulf talent show El Beit chose five finalists in the chaters category on Monday instead of the usual four, courtesy of a royal directive by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the crown prince of Dubai.
The programme, produced by the Hamdan bin Mohammed Heritage Center, is shot in Dubai and aims to find the next generation of leading Nabati poets.
The royal edict was welcomed by the programme’s general manager Majid Al Bastaki.
“We sincerely thank His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, for his continuous support and valuable follow-up in this programme,” he said.
“His directions consistently bring unique concepts to the show and attract large numbers of exceptional chaters to the golden screen.”
The episode’s winner was Saudi Arabia’s Fahad Al Aebani who pocketed a cool Dh200,000.
He will go to compete in the final where the cash prize is Dh1 million.

Hili 2: Unesco World Heritage site
The site is part of the Hili archaeological park in Al Ain. Excavations there have proved the existence of the earliest known agricultural communities in modern-day UAE. Some date to the Bronze Age but Hili 2 is an Iron Age site. The Iron Age witnessed the development of the falaj, a network of channels that funnelled water from natural springs in the area. Wells allowed settlements to be established, but falaj meant they could grow and thrive. Unesco, the UN's cultural body, awarded Al Ain's sites - including Hili 2 - world heritage status in 2011. Now the most recent dig at the site has revealed even more about the skilled people that lived and worked there.
