If you have a beauty camel who is not quite ready for big time, then this year’s Baynounah Camel Festival is your chance.

The second annual Baynounah camel beauty pageant will run from Nov 8 to 13 outside Madinat Zayed, Al Gharbia.

Local tribesmen have made donations to this year’s 280 prizes and more than Dh4million is on offer to the country’s most beautiful camels. Prizes start at Dh115,000.

Judges will be on the look out for good hump placement, pointed ears and a large head.

There are 32 rounds open to fair haired asayal camels and dark brown majahim camels. Opportunity abounds.

It is a fraction of the size of December’s two-week Al Dhafra festival but a great chance to get your camel some experience in the cut-throat world of camel beauty pageants.

The festival is south of Madinat Zayed on the E45 to Liwa, about a two-hour drive from Abu Dhabi city.
