How good is Snoop Dogg at playing Fifa?
You can find out tonight as the American rapper takes on DJ and comedian Kerwin Frost in the concluding event of Gamers Without Borders by Saudi.
The face-off is slated to take place tonight (Sunday, June 7), at 11.30pm UAE time, and will bring the seven-week long charity initiative to a close.
Since it began on April 24, Gamers Without Borders has staged a major eSports charity event, uniting gamers from around the world to raise money for Covid-19 charities.
By the time the event wraps up tonight, the initiative will have donated $10 million (Dh36.7m) to charities fighting against the pandemic, including Unicef and the International Medical Corps.
More than 200,000 gamers from 72 different countries have taken part in the event so far, competing in daily and weekly community tournaments across 16 games, including Call of Duty, Fifa, Fortnite, and Mortal Kombat. The matches range from amateur-level tournaments to those geared towards professional gamers.
Winners get to pick one of the seven listed charity groups to donate to. The generated sponsorship revenue has also been donated to charity.
Gamers Without Borders by Saudi was created by the Saudi Arabian Federation for Electronic and Intellectual Sports (Safeis) in partnership with Electronic Sports League (ESL), the world’s largest eSports company. The event is streamed live across Twitch, YouTube, Facebook and Huya.
The partnership with ESL will help provide a broadcast feed in seven different languages, including Arabic, English, Spanish and Mandarin, for a global experience reaching worldwide.
"After seven weeks and over $10m donated to charities on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic, Gamers Without Borders has shown the role eSports and gaming can play in being a global force good," Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan, president of Safeis, said in a statement to The National.
“Elite and amateur gamers from every corner in the world united to make this into the biggest charity eSports event ever held. Bringing together such a massive number of gamers and learners worldwide proves eSports is a powerful tool transcending all borders – and we are proud to be leading on this.”
A number of celebrity footballers have taken part in the event, including Tottenham Hotspur and England player Dele Alli, Juventus and Argentina’s Paulo Dybala, and Portugal’s Joao Felix and Andre Silva.
British singer Liam Payne was the latest celebrity to lend his star power to the cause, taking part in the event's celebrity-packed closing weekend.
The former One Direction star faced off on Fifa 20 with Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold on Saturday, but ultimately lost 4-1 and then 5-2 in front of a streaming audience of thousands.
Gamers Without Borders also introduced a series of free-to-all training programmes and webinars aimed at advancing game development. The programmes featured 160 digital experts – including developers, gamers, investors and entrepreneurs – and have had more than 100 hours of content and 20,000 participants from 80 different countries.
Anyone who takes part in the event – whether as a viewer or gamer – can contribute to the cause by donating to the seven charities via the Gamers Without Borders website.

10 tips for entry-level job seekers
- Have an up-to-date, professional LinkedIn profile. If you don’t have a LinkedIn account, set one up today. Avoid poor-quality profile pictures with distracting backgrounds. Include a professional summary and begin to grow your network.
- Keep track of the job trends in your sector through the news. Apply for job alerts at your dream organisations and the types of jobs you want – LinkedIn uses AI to share similar relevant jobs based on your selections.
- Double check that you’ve highlighted relevant skills on your resume and LinkedIn profile.
- For most entry-level jobs, your resume will first be filtered by an applicant tracking system for keywords. Look closely at the description of the job you are applying for and mirror the language as much as possible (while being honest and accurate about your skills and experience).
- Keep your CV professional and in a simple format – make sure you tailor your cover letter and application to the company and role.
- Go online and look for details on job specifications for your target position. Make a list of skills required and set yourself some learning goals to tick off all the necessary skills one by one.
- Don’t be afraid to reach outside your immediate friends and family to other acquaintances and let them know you are looking for new opportunities.
- Make sure you’ve set your LinkedIn profile to signal that you are “open to opportunities”. Also be sure to use LinkedIn to search for people who are still actively hiring by searching for those that have the headline “I’m hiring” or “We’re hiring” in their profile.
- Prepare for online interviews using mock interview tools. Even before landing interviews, it can be useful to start practising.
- Be professional and patient. Always be professional with whoever you are interacting with throughout your search process, this will be remembered. You need to be patient, dedicated and not give up on your search. Candidates need to make sure they are following up appropriately for roles they have applied.
