Dubai's Walk of Fame will roll out the red carpet for one of the world's biggest boy bands when it is unveiled later this year.

The Dubai Stars project has revealed that South Korean group BTS will be honoured with a spot on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard when the tributes are launched in October

"A Dubai Star is now dedicated to the popular South Korean boy band from Seoul – BTS," the Dubai Stars Twitter account posted on Monday evening. "Will you be cheering for them at our launch event this October?"

The honour is yet another feather in the band's cap, with BTS invited to join the Recording Academy this year, as well becoming the first South Korean musicians to perform on popular sketch show Saturday Night Live in April.

Who are BTS?

BTS first formed in Seoul in 2013 and broke through into the US pop market in 2017, becoming the first K-pop group to win a Billboard music award. They have a huge, and very loyal, fan base: who are prolific on social media.

The seven-member-strong band – made up of Jimin, J-Hope, Jungkook, Jin, V, Suga and RM – were also nominated for their first Grammy this year, though they didn't take a golden gramophone home on the night.

They're behind hits singles such as Idol, while albums Love Yourself: Tear and Love Yourself: Answer both debuted on the US Billboard 200 chart at No 1 in 2018.

Last year, they became the first Korean pop group to top the Billboard album charts in the US, and sold out a concert at New York City’s Citi Field.

They're also set to release their third feature film, Bring the Soul: The Movie, next month.

The Walk of Fame

Emaar announced the Dubai Stars project in March this year. It is set to be located on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown Dubai.

In total, there will be 10,000 stars on the walk. However, to begin with, there will be 400 Dubai Stars, which will be voted for by the public and unveiled this October.

The Dubai Walk of Fame will pay homage to local and international personalities from various fields including music and film, of course, but also art, architecture, sport and literature, as well as social influencers.

Names already revealed to feature on Dubai Stars include footballer Lionel Messi, poet Khalil Gibran, Saudi singer Abdul Majeed Abdullah, designer Elie Saab and actor Shah Rukh Khan.
