Just eight months after Spotify officially arrived in the UAE, the music streaming app is launching another service – and it's great news for peopled with limited data.

Spotify Lite is a smaller, simplified version of the platform which uses less data, less storage and can run on older Android phones. Bosses at Spotify say the new version of the platform is something that will open its music offering up to more people around the world.

“Spotify Lite was built from the ground up based on user feedback from around the world, allowing millions more to enjoy the world’s best music experience — especially in areas with limited bandwidth and phone storage,” says Kalle Persson, senior product manager at Spotify.

The new app is capped at 10MB, whereas the original version can use up to 100MB of a phone’s memory. It also allows users to set a monthly data use cap, sending a notification when you are reaching your streaming limit.

Spotify Lite is available for both free and premium Spotify users, and will still allow subscribers to search and play their favourite songs, enjoy curated playlists and share music with friends.

The new app launches today in 36 markets around the world including the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Africa on Google Play with more markets and features to follow.
