Saudi singer Waed has revealed her daughter, Hossna, tested positive for Covid-19.

The pop star, who lives in Bahrain, made the announcement on social media on Monday by posting a black-and-white picture of herself donning a face mask.

“My darling daughter got the coronavirus. May God lift this from her and cure her,” the caption reads. “Pray for her. My darling Hossna, you are a piece of my heart.”

Hossna, 20, is Waed’s only child from her marriage to her former manager. Their relationship ended in 2018. Waed has not yet updated fans about her daughter's condition.

Waed is one of the most popular singers in Saudi Arabia.

At 43, she is already in the fourth decade of her career, having made her debut on Saudi TV at age 7.

A child star in the mid-1980s, Waed made regular appearances on the small screen and performed in government-sanctioned charity concerts. Her talent was such that some of the kingdom's leading composers, including Mohammed Abdo and Talal Maddah, wrote songs for her.

It was at the turn of the century that Waed made her foray into the pop world. After the 2001 release of Jonoun, her first of four albums, she went on to amass a string of pan-Arab hits, including Ya Ahlahom, Ana Bekhair and Qaed Ala Qalbak.

Her daughter is one of several high-profile names to test positive for Covid-19 recently.

Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, 46, and her daughter, Aaradhya, 8, were admitted to hospital in Mumbai on July 17.

The actress's husband, Abhishek Bachchan, 44, and father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan, 77, were taken to hospital with Covid-19 on July 11.

Actors Tom Hanks and Idris Elba, and singer Pink, have all spoken about their experience with coronavirus. Egyptian actress Ragaa Al Geddawy, 81, died on July 5 because of complications related to the virus.
