The latest season of Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model last week premiered its first two episodes, both filmed at Dubai's Atlantis The Palm. A spokesperson from Atlantis confirmed the show was shot at the resort from February 20 to 28 with the supermodel host Elle Macpherson, the actress Whitney Port, the fashion designer Julien Macdonald and the model Tyson Beckford, along with 20 contestants and a crew of 26. They booked 32 rooms at Atlantis. According to their spokesperson, this year Atlantis has hosted the cast and crews of The Amazing Race, Top Chef, Made in Chelsea, Germany's Next Top Model and the Chinese film Switch.
Mariah Carey announces new single
Mariah Carey took to Twitter on Saturday to announce the title of her forthcoming track, Triumphant (Get 'Em). "So I can finally announce to you that my new single is coming out early August!" Carey posted. "I wrote Triumphant when I was going through a difficult time. When you hear it, pay attention to the lyrics." Elton top of the pops after 20 years
The British pop star Elton John on Sunday scored his first No 1 album in his home country for more than 20 years, his seventh in total. The singer and pianist, who is 65, claimed the official top spot with Good Morning to the Night, a collaboration with the Australian duo Pnau. The pair have reworked John's early 1970s hits as dance anthems, giving him his first chart-topper since releasing The Very Best of Elton John in 1990. * AP
Men in Black 4 confirmed
After the success of the third Men in Black, another part is coming, the Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad has announced. Will Smith, who reprised his role of Agent J in the sci-fi franchise in May, has reportedly signed on. Lindsay Lohan takes new film role
Lindsay Lohan has secured her next movie role. The producer Braxton Pope announced Lohan will star in The Canyons, a film written by the Less Than Zero author Bret Easton Ellis about ambitious 20-somethings in Los Angeles. Paul Schrader, who wrote Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, is set to direct the film. The new role comes amid Lohan's continuing legal issues, a recent car crash and a run-in with paramedics. Her publicist says the 26-year-old actress has been on set since last week. * AP
Labour dispute
The insured employee may still file an ILOE claim even if a labour dispute is ongoing post termination, but the insurer may suspend or reject payment, until the courts resolve the dispute, especially if the reason for termination is contested. Ten tax points to be aware of in 2026
1. Domestic VAT refund amendments: request your refund within five years
If a business does not apply for the refund on time, they lose their credit.
2. E-invoicing in the UAE
Businesses should continue preparing for the implementation of e-invoicing in the UAE, with 2026 a preparation and transition period ahead of phased mandatory adoption.
3. More tax audits
Tax authorities are increasingly using data already available across multiple filings to identify audit risks.
4. More beneficial VAT and excise tax penalty regime
Tax disputes are expected to become more frequent and more structured, with clearer administrative objection and appeal processes. The UAE has adopted a new penalty regime for VAT and excise disputes, which now mirrors the penalty regime for corporate tax.
5. Greater emphasis on statutory audit
There is a greater need for the accuracy of financial statements. The International Financial Reporting Standards standards need to be strictly adhered to and, as a result, the quality of the audits will need to increase.
6. Further transfer pricing enforcement
Transfer pricing enforcement, which refers to the practice of establishing prices for internal transactions between related entities, is expected to broaden in scope. The UAE will shortly open the possibility to negotiate advance pricing agreements, or essentially rulings for transfer pricing purposes.
7. Limited time periods for audits
Recent amendments also introduce a default five-year limitation period for tax audits and assessments, subject to specific statutory exceptions. While the standard audit and assessment period is five years, this may be extended to up to 15 years in cases involving fraud or tax evasion.
8. Pillar 2 implementation
Many multinational groups will begin to feel the practical effect of the Domestic Minimum Top-Up Tax (DMTT), the UAE's implementation of the OECD’s global minimum tax under Pillar 2. While the rules apply for financial years starting on or after January 1, 2025, it is 2026 that marks the transition to an operational phase.
9. Reduced compliance obligations for imported goods and services
Businesses that apply the reverse-charge mechanism for VAT purposes in the UAE may benefit from reduced compliance obligations.
10. Substance and CbC reporting focus
Tax authorities are expected to continue strengthening the enforcement of economic substance and Country-by-Country (CbC) reporting frameworks. In the UAE, these regimes are increasingly being used as risk-assessment tools, providing tax authorities with a comprehensive view of multinational groups’ global footprints and enabling them to assess whether profits are aligned with real economic activity.

1. Make sure you make your payments on time;
2. Limit the number of products you borrow on: the more loans and credit cards you have, the more it will affect your credit score;
3. Don't max out all your debts: how much you maximise those credit facilities will have an impact. If you have five credit cards and utilise 90 per cent of that credit, it will negatively affect your score.
