Expect to see a lot of Hardwell next year – the superstar DJ will perform a series of shows in the UAE.

"I am going to start a residency in Dubai," says the Dutch trance artist in an exclusive interview with The National at Amsterdam Dance Event.

“So I am looking forward to visiting there much more next year. The shows will be spread out during the year, and we are still in talks to see if it is a new or old club or whether it will a bunch of different clubs.”

As well as launching his own fragrance line, Eclipse, at ADE, Hardwell also discusses his latest club hit, Ambush, a collaboration with compatriot DJ Afrojack.

Hardwell thinks there is no mystery to why Dutch DJs – such as Armin van Buuren, Tiësto and Martin Garrix – continue to dominate the international dance-music scene.

"It's because we don't feel like it's a competition. We all help and support each other," he says. "We all look out for each other like one big family. Actually, we are all on this one big WhatsApp group chat where we are constantly talking to each other."
