Also making her Bollywood debut in the romantic action movie Heropanti is Kriti Sanon, a New Delhi model who made her acting debut with the Telugu psychological thriller 1: Nenokkadine, which was released in January.

Sanon admits that at first it was unnerving to take the plunge into Bollywood.

“After you get over that initial fear of the unknown, it’s great,” says Sanon. “When you start working, you realise how much goes into every single scene. Each scene is shot multiple times until perfect. And then there is the dubbing, the editing and all the work that goes on after the shooting. A lot of hard work goes into making films.”

Sabbir Khan, the director, says he wanted Sanon for the film the minute he saw her in a toothpaste commercial: “I had Kriti in mind even before I started casting. I had seen her in a toothpaste ad and for a few months she wasn’t available. I held a lot of auditions but nothing clicked. That’s when I pressured my producer and her agency [to bring her in]. She read the part and I knew instantly that she was the one.”
