The Upper East Side brownstone that featured in the Truman Capote movie adaptation Breakfast at Tiffany's, has gone on sale for US$8 million (Dh29.4m). The property was originally put on the market in 2012, when it was listed for $5.85 million.
While the property’s interiors, as seen in the movie, were all filmed on a sound stage, iconic scenes such as the one where Hepburn hails a taxi were all shot outside of this house. Though, even if the actual interiors were used in the film, it still wouldn’t be recognisable. Originally built in 1910, since filming the property has undergone two major renovations and was converted from an apartment block into a four-floor, single-family home three years ago. Regardless, the interior still oozes the same elegance captured on camera. And the exterior is immediately distinguishable, save for the lack of a green-and-white striped awning.
This high-end New York City address measures 3,800 square feet in total, with four bedrooms, five bathrooms, a solarium and high ceilings.
The upper duplex consists of a living room with a wood-burning fireplace and sweeping staircase, powder room, dining room and a renovated kitchen with laundry. Upstairs are two bedroom suites, each with its own bath.
The garden duplex apartment with a separate entrance has a living room, kitchen and glass-enclosed solarium with a backyard. Finally, the upper level includes a front library/bedroom with a fireplace and powder room, and a large rear bedroom.
And for those of you who are truly mad about the film, you’ll be happy to know the property still has its original front stoop and door.
