Movie fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Christopher Nolan's highly-anticipated, big budget, sci-fi espionage film Tenet. Originally set to arrive in theatres on Friday, July 17, the film's release date has now been pushed back two weeks to Friday, July 31.

The change comes as part of Warner Bros’ latest reordering of its movie calendar in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

"We're especially thrilled, in this complex and rapidly changing environment, to be bringing Christopher Nolan's Tenet, a global tentpole of jaw-dropping size, scope and scale, to theatres around the world on July 31," Warner Bros Picture Group Chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement.

"It's been longer than any of us could’ve imagined since we’ve seen a movie on the big screen," he added.

However, this isn't the only anticipated film release date affected as many others have also since been postponed. Wonder Woman 1984, the sequel to 2017's Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot, has also seen its release date pushed back two months from Friday, August 14 to Friday, October 2. Originally the film was set to kick off the summer season with a Friday, June 5 opening day.

Marvel film Black Widow and the ninth installment of the Fast & Furious have also seen their release dates delayed.

According to Nolan, Tenet is his most ambitious film yet. The Inception director's new sci-fi revolves around a secret agent, who's been tasked with preventing the Third World War by using time inversion. The movie stars John David Washington and Robert Pattinson.

Wonder Women 1984 sees Gadot and director Patty Jenkins return once again for the sequel. Gadot's Wonder Woman will face new baddies including Cheetah, a villainess who possesses superhuman powers.
