Salman Khan's heavily auto- tuned rendition of Main Hoon Hero Tera has been playing incessantly on radio stations and television channels to promote the upcoming film Hero – produced by Salman himself, and starring newcomers Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty.
YouTube channel Shudh Desi Gaane recently released a merciless spoof of the song – it's so funny and spot-on that it has gone viral on social media, gathering more than 72,000 hits in three days. The folks behind the channel had previously parodied Khan's song Selfie Le Le Re from his recently released blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
In the clip, which is dedicated to celebrities' kids, Fake Salman is seen giving tips to the lead actors, named Doobta Suraj (setting sun) and Smaller-Jaws-than-Athiya-Shetty.
It parodies Salman and his many quirks, and the lyrics are hilarious, with lines such as: "Protein shake maarke, pehle tu mere jaisa body bana" (Gulp down some protein shake and build up your body like mine, taking a jab at his obsession with the gym); and "Main hoon virgin godfather tera, more useful than the father tera" (I am your virgin godfather, more useful than your own father), which doesn't quite gel with his reputation of being a ladies' man.
If you've seen the trailer of Hero, you already know how bad the film looks. Salman's clout can get the masses to the cinemas, but it remains to be seen if, like Fake Salman, he can live up to his promise of "fully setting" the careers of these star kids.
