These famous actors and actresses prove that the apple doesn’t fall very far from the tree in Hollywood

It's well known that some Hollywood stars are the offspring of very famous parents, such as Kate Hudson being lucky enough to call the legendary Goldie Hawn "mom". However, many other actors and actresses are a little more low-key when it comes to their parentage.

As Irish actress Eve Hewson lights up the small screen in new Netflix drama Behind Her Eyes, we reveal not only who her very famous father is, but also the stars you might not know have very A-list mums and dads indeed …

Eve Hewson

Because her famous dad is known by his stage name, Bono, rather than his real name, Eve Hewson has been able to fly under the radar until now. AFP

The Irish actress, 29, currently starring in Netflix's latest water-cooler debate-starter Behind Her Eyes, is none other than Bono's daughter. Her U2 frontman father's real name is Paul Hewson, and she has so far racked up roles as Carol Donovan in Steven Spielberg's Oscar-winning Bridge of Spies, and as Maid Marion in 2018's Robin Hood.

Dan Levy

Actor, writer and director Dan Levy has his famous actor father to thank for showing him the Hollywood ropes. AFP

The Schitt's Creek star not only appears in the hit show, he also produced, wrote and directed it. Although his surname is a giveaway, you might not know that he's the son of legendary comic actor and American Pie dad, Eugene Levy, who also stars in the hit comedy series.

Maya Rudolph

Comic actress Maya Rudolph is the daughter of a very famous soul singer. AFP

The Saturday Night Live alumni and Bridesmaids actress has a very famous and talented mum. Rudolph's mother is soul, jazz and RnB singer Minnie Riperton, most famous for her 1975 hit Lovin' You. Rudolph herself is married to There Will Be Blood director Paul Thomas Anderson, and they have four children.

Margaret Qualley

Margaret Qualley has inherited her famous mum's looks and acting talent. AFP

The actress who won critical acclaim for her role in the Oscar-winning Once Upon a Time In ... Hollywood is the daughter of Andie MacDowell, best known for her roles in Groundhog Day and Four Weddings and a Funeral. Qualley followed in her mum's footsteps by starting out as a model and moving into film.

John David Washington

John David Washington shares the same surname as his very famous double Oscar-winning father. AFP

Although his surname will clue you in to his famous and much-loved dad, it's not that widely known that the Tenet star is double Oscar-winner Denzel Washington's son. Washington earned a Golden Globe nomination for Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman, and says of his parents: "Both of my parents are in the business and have been working for a long time, so I'm lucky to have those examples."

Toby Stephens

Former Bond villain Toby Stephens's mother is one of the world's most famous and respected actresses. AFP

He cut his acting teeth playing the villainous Gustav Graves in Bond film Die Another Day, and he might well have turned to his legendary mother for some advice for delivering withering put-downs. Stephens's mum is Downton Abbey's Dowager Countess herself, Dame Maggie Smith.

Jason Schwartzman

Jason Schwartzman not only has a Hollywood legend for a mother, but the rest of his extended family is super-famous, too. AFP

The actor and long-time Wes Anderson collaborator, who has appeared in The Darjeeling Limited and The Grand Budapest Hotel, is the son of Rocky and The Godfather actress Talia Shire. She is also director Francis Ford Coppola's sister, which makes director Sofia Coppola and actor Nicolas Cage Jason's cousins.

O’Shea Jackson Jr

In a very meta move, actor O'Shea Jackson Jr even portrayed his famous dad on the big screen. AFP

The talented actor is the son of NWA rapper Ice Cube, whose real name is O'Shea Jackson. Jackson Jr not only follows in his dad's musical footsteps, going by the rap name OMG, but also in acting, too. Ice Cube famously starred in 1991's Boyz n the Hood, and his son went on to portray his dad in the 2015 biopic about his group NWA, Straight Outta Compton.

Riley Keough

American actress Riley Keough comes from a long line of stars. AFP

With roles on the big screen in Magic Mike and Mad Max: Fury Road, and on the small screen in Riverdale, Keough has shown she's as comfortable in the spotlight as her famous mum and grandparents. Her mother is actress and singer Lisa Marie Presley, and her grandparents are Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley.

Mamie Gummer

'The Good Wife' star Mamie Gummer shares her record-breaking mum's looks, but not her surname. AFP

The actress, 37, who has appeared in The Good Wife and Emily Owens, MD is the daughter of Meryl Streep. But despite being the child of the most Oscar-nominated actress of all time (three wins from 21 nominations), Gummer has praised her non-starry upbringing, telling The Independent: "One of the smartest things my parents did was to move to the country when we were small."
