The filmmaker Indra Kumar’s A-rated comedy Grand Masti has stormed the domestic box office – it has crossed the Rs100 crore (1 billion rupees; almost Dh60 million) mark, even though it was panned by the critics. “And it’s a century... Grand Masti crosses Rs100 crore net mark in India. First ‘Adults’ film to attain this status,” tweeted the trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Aftab Shivadasani, who plays one of the male leads in the movie, took to the microblogging site to share his excitement about the film’s growing numbers at the ticket window. The actor, who plays Prem in the film, tweeted: “And history is made – the first adult film to make Rs100 crores! Feeling elated to be a part of history! Thank you all.” Grand Masti, which came out last month, also stars Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi and is a sequel to the 2004 hit Masti.
Krrish 3 gets new line of jewellery merchandise
The Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan has collaborated with his sister-in-law, the jewellery designer Farah Khan Ali, to launch a collection of jewellery as merchandise for his forthcoming superhero drama Krrish 3. Khan Ali said: "Hrithik and I got talking about the film and I asked him what its significance was for him. He spoke about how every person has courage within to change the world and how every-thing starts with the individual. That's when we decided to create a token that would not be just a passing fad, but a constant reminder of the fact that we all have the strength within." Ranbir Kapoor talks about doing a superhero film
The Besharam star Ranbir Kapoor might put on a cape in Ayan Mukherjee's next film. "The idea is to make a superhero film," Kapoor said. "But I guess that until the script is ready, I am not in the position to say anything. We're trying to make something very different and personal but there is still time for it. I think in Hindi films, every hero is a superhero. When a hero hits somebody, the guy goes flying 30 feet. I don't think you need super powers to be a superhero." Kapoor is currently working on Anurag Kasyap's Bombay Velvet, Anurag Basu's Jagga Jasoos and the debutant filmmaker Vikramjit Singh's Roy. Rajinikanth invited to inaugurate IFFI
The southern Indian superstar Rajinikanth has been invited to be the chief guest for the inaugural event at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held in Goa in November. Vishnu Wagh, the vice chairperson of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), a state agency that coordinates the festival, said that the superstar could be one of the star attractions this year. "We have sent him an invite and are awaiting confirmation. It would be an honour to have him," Wagh said. He added that the ESG would wait until the end of October for Rajinikanth to confirm his attendance. The IFFI runs November 20-30. – IANS

Financial considerations before buying a property
Buyers should try to pay as much in cash as possible for a property, limiting the mortgage value to as little as they can afford. This means they not only pay less in interest but their monthly costs are also reduced. Ideally, the monthly mortgage payment should not exceed 20 per cent of the purchaser’s total household income, says Carol Glynn, founder of Conscious Finance Coaching.
“If it’s a rental property, plan for the property to have periods when it does not have a tenant. Ensure you have enough cash set aside to pay the mortgage and other costs during these periods, ideally at least six months,” she says.
