While summer is coming to an end right now in the Northern Hemisphere, here in the Middle East, there's still some time before we're graced with cooler weather. Still, we can start to experiment with light layering, to transition our favourite summer pieces to autumn – starting with the little white dress.
It’s the younger sister of the more popular little black dress, or LBD for short, but the little white dress is every bit as alluring, if you ask me. It’s youthful, fresh, flirty and feminine, and an excellent canvas to play with – especially between seasons.
Take a valiant street-style approach by layering your little white dress over a pair of distressed jeans. Finish the look with a light bomber jacket thrown over the shoulders, plus a fancy pair of pointed pumps.
Alternatively, toughen up a feminine design with a boxy biker jacket or a plaid shirt tied around the waist. This will give your little white dress a bit of a tomboy edge, while still retaining some romance.
If your little white dress reaches the knee or below the knee, consider jazzing it up with a belt. Go for a solid design, perhaps in gold, for a bold, put-together look, or opt for a rope belt or skinny leather piece for a vibe that borders on boho chic.
A light, white number may be the ultimate daytime dress – but with a quick fix or two, it can easily be taken into night. A chunky kimono-like cardigan, for instance, with a hemline that’s longer than your dress, will instantly transform its appearance, especially if you swap gladiator sandals for some edgy ankle boots.
If all else fails, when in doubt about how to add oomph to your little white dress, a simple denim jacket and a new pair of trainers will do the trick.
