Florence Welch has an unmistakably cool and confident aura about her, which is always reflected in her fashion choices.
While we’re itching for a sneak peek of her get-up for her first performance in the capital – at Formula One after-race concert on November 28 – we have a few guesses on the type of look she might go for, keeping in mind some of her recent onstage outfits.
Whatever she wears, Welch has an effortless indie vibe. Whether it is a flowing outfit with kimono-like sleeves, a psychedelic printed pantsuit, or a lace-up neckline on a pirate-style white blouse tucked into wide-legged trousers, Welch always nails that boho-rocker, yet somewhat ethereal, look.
The singer has proven to be a big lover of suits. In recent months, she has worn a hot-pink three-piece number, as well as a similar outfit in silver with a metallic sheen. And while these were rather menswear-inspired, the cowboy-esque hat and boots and salmon pink Chanel suit she wore at the fashion house’s autumn/winter 2016 fashion show in Paris had a more feminine touch.
While Welch has worn form-fitting gowns for red-carpet events, such sultry style is not really her forte. She opts for relaxed silhouettes that are roomy and breathable. At times she takes on an androgynous appearance, while on other occasions she is simply glamorous.
The singer favours shades of green. For her Sandance appearance in Dubai in 2013, she donned her signature emerald hue in an outfit created by local designer Marina Qureshi. At last year’s Paris Fashion Week, she wore a military green ensemble with colourful butterflies to the Valentino show, and at London Fashion Week this year, her outfit for the Erdem show incorporated a green feathered coat. While green may well be her favourite colour, we doubt she’ll repeat it this weekend. We also hope she won’t turn up in a pyjama-style suit – though it’s a great look, it doesn’t top our list of statement concert attire – unless it has an extraordinary print.
We’re hoping to see one of the show-stopping looks from the recent Gucci cruise collection on Welch for her F1 concert. If not, an intricate dress with kaftan influences will also do, to pay homage to the Middle East setting.
