This week, one of my favourite artists in the UAE was signed by one of my favourite galleries. Shaikha Al Mazrou whose sculptural practice explores a fascination of shape, colour and form and places itself plumply in the contemporary conversation by her choice of current materials - acrylic sheets, computer casing and metal - was taken onto the Lawrie Shabibi roster. Al Mazrou’s ouevre is refreshing because she is so aware of her own influences and keeps herself clear of any cliches. I look forward to seeing how her work develops under the guidance of the gallery.
