Summer gets better

Since the closure of the popular beach at Ras Al Akhdar more than six years ago, Abu Dhabi city had been missing an exclusive beach for women to enjoy the privacy such facilities offer. Women who don’t want to, or simply can’t, attend public beaches would either go to the closest ladies’ beach in Dubai or ditch the idea altogether.

This is why the news about the new dedicated ladies-only section at Al Bateen Beach is very welcome. As The National reported yesterday, Abu Dhabi Municipality has announced the opening of a stretch of beach exclusively for females and boys under 6. The beach, featuring cabins, sports and yoga facilities, snack outlets, an outdoor cinema and a playground for children, will be open every day from 10am to 10pm for all nationalities.

Having a ladies-only beach is an advantage for women from all backgrounds, especially those who feel more comfortable hanging out in a male-free environment; to swim, play water sports and have fun, or just to get a healthy dose of vitamin D from exposure to the sun.
