While the concept of layering in fashion is often associated with wearing different tops, blouses, sweaters or jackets, at once, this season puts a spotlight on a different technique: the layering of dresses.
For our December 2016 fashion shoot for Luxury magazine, we pay homage to this contemporary trend by giving it our own styling twist — lace on lace. The image was shot at The Funfair at The Beach, opposite JBR in Dubai, at sunset. As the eerie-yet-ethereal orange bulbs lit up around the carousel, our photographer, Samuli Karala, insisted on shooting inside the ride itself. Onlookers watched on as our models, Barbara and Sylwia, climbed into the carousel in their Versace and Christian Louboutin heels, and posed amid the swings. Sylwia, on the left, is robed in two dresses, layered on top of one another. Underneath is a lilac-coloured dress from Lanvin, and on top, is a Self-portrait dress from S*uce boutique.
When attempting to replicate this style, it’s crucial to choose two dresses with different cuts — for instance, if you wear two body-hugging dresses together, it won’t work in your favour. Here, the Lanvin dress features a ruffled neckline, while the Self-portrait dress has neck a deep V-neck. This allows both to sit nicely together, and prevents them from competing with one another. Avoid throwing a necklace on top of the two dresses, and instead accessorise with chandelier earrings or feminine footwear.
