If you find yourself living in an apartment that more closely resembles a broom cupboard, don’t panic – there are a number of ways to create the illusion of space.
Furniture alignment is often to blame for bad space use. Think about the placement of items such as sofas and lamps – rather than standing them alone, consider arranging them flush against the wall.
Swap your table lamp with an overhead light. If you have to contend with low ceilings, draw your guests’ eyes upwards by placing distinctive items high on your walls and shelves. Think boldly designed wall hangings and decorative features on the tops of your bookshelves to create the impression of higher ceilings.
Though storage is a necessary evil, it shouldn’t be the main focus of a room, particularly if you’re struggling for space. Consider using sliding walls or dividers to hide items such as entertainment units.
Finally, choose your colour scheme wisely. And by that, we mean choose white. It might seem boring, but you can look to accents and textures to shake things up.
