Christian Dior has teamed up with British sculpture Marc Quinn to create a series of limited edition Lady Dior bags.
As part of the commemoration of the 2017 Cruise Collection, which recently showed at Blenheim Palace, and the opening of the brand new flagship store on New Bond Street in London, Quinn has been commissioned to decorate a series of the brand’s iconic handbags and small leather goods in his distinctive style.
The striking bags, feature hyper-real paintings of black orchids that seem to blossom across the bags, and details of the human iris depicted in swirling colours, all in intense blues, reds and blacks. This is a bold move away from the handbag's typical cannage design, a motif taken from Napoleon III chairs, and a favourite of Dior himself.
Quinn, an artist of international regard, has often used orchids motifs in his work, although he is perhaps best known for his self portrait, a cast of his own head in blood, and his series of sculptures of supermodel Kate Moss, entitled Siren.
The Quinn limited edition Lady Dior bags are available exclusively at Christian Dior New Bond Street, London.
