Tunisia train crash - in pictures

The train was heading into the capital from the town of Gaafour, 120km to the southwest, in the morning rush hour when the accident happened.

The impact derailed the first two carriages of the train ejecting a large number of passengers, said Mongi Kadhi, an official with emergency services.

At least 20 ambulances were mobilised to evacuate the dead and wounded to the three closest hospitals.

Victims were extracted from the wreckage.

Train crashes are common in Tunisia, where much of the rail network is dilapidated, but Tuesday’s accident was the deadliest in recent memory.
