The Rio Carnival has been called the world's ultimate celebration and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors and viewers from all over the world. Samba, a dance invented by Afro-Brazilians, is the essence of the carnival and people from all over the city work hard all year perfecting their floats, costumes and amazing routines. What makes the Rio Carnival magic cannot be marketed, boxed or sold, but hopefully this gallery of pictures can at least express some of the festival's soul.
