Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban is supported by a majority of American voters - despite initial widespread opposition, a new poll shows.
A total of 60 per cent of voters in the U.S. back the ban which restricts visitors from six predominantly Muslim countries.
The travel policy, which came into effect last month, has seemingly grown in popularity since the State Department released a revised and reworded version last month.
Its “new guidelines” say “visa applicants from six predominantly Muslim countries must prove a close family relationship with a U.S. resident in order to enter the country”.
And it would appear that associating the ban with the State Department - and distancing it from the President himself - has helped to win over more American voters: polls from earlier in the year show far greater opposition to the executive order first unveiled by Donald Trump in late January.
The poll - jointly conducted by POLITICO and Morning Consult - appears to suggest the policy is more palatable when separated from President Trump.
The wording of the poll doesn’t mention Trump or his executive order, and when quizzed about the State Department’s “new guidelines”, 60 per cent of participants said they supported it, while only 28 per cent expressed opposition.
Kyle Dropp, chief research officer and co-founder of political data company Morning Consult, told Politico: "Since we last asked about Trump's travel ban, we've seen a drop in those who oppose the executive order.
“Though, we've also seen an uptick in those who do not have any opinion on the matter or have yet to settle on one.”

Normcore explained
