UAE's Gargash calls for new Arab national security framework

The Arabs will be marginalised without national security, minister says

The UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs called for a new Arab national security framework following the latest developments in Syria’s Kurdish-controlled enclave of Afrin.

“The developments pertaining to Afrin reaffirm the need to work on rebuilding and restoring the concept of Arab national security on a realistic and modern basis,” Dr Anwar Gargash tweeted late on Sunday.

“Without that, Arabs will be marginalised and their homes an [exposed] public domain.”

Dr Gargash’s statements come after an attack by Turkish troops in northern Syria in a bid to oust a US-allied Kurdish militia from the area.

The Turkish offensive on Afrin was launched on Saturday and has added tensions to the already complicated Syrian conflict.
