Two Egyptian nationals charged in connection with the murder of the Lebanese singer, Suzan Tamim, will not face trial in Dubai, the chief of police announced today. Egyptian tycoon, Hisham Talaat Moustafa, is accused of ordering and paying for the killing of the 31-year-old singer, who was found with her throat slit in her Dubai flat on July 28. The man he allegedly hired is former police officer, Mohsen el Sokari. Chief lieutenant general Dahi Khalfan Tamim, chief of Dubai Police, said as the UAE does not have an extradition agreement with Egypt, the men will face justice in their own country. "We believe in the Egyptian judicial system. We trust their system and that it will be dealt with in the correct way," said Chief Lieu General Tamim. Hisham Talaat Moustafa is the former chairman of the board of Egypt's largest publicly traded property company, the Talaat Moustafa Group, and a member of the country's upper house of parliament. The body of the 31-year-old singer was discovered by her cousin in the corridor of her Dubai flat. Police said they identified the suspected killer later that day. Mr Sokari, 39, was apprehended by Egyptian authorities three days later relaxing by the pool at a five-star hotel in Cairo. He allegedly confessed to the murder, telling police that Mr Moustafa - who was reportedly romantically involved with Tamim - hired him to kill the singer for US$2 million (Dh7.35m). rabubaker@thenational.ae
