MUSCAT // About 3,000 workers building a new terminal at Muscat airport went on strike yesterday.
The workers have been told their pay will be cut from 145 rials (Dh 1,400) a month to 115 rials, according to Raju Dosh, one of the workers.
He is employed by a three company consortium of the US company Bechtel, the Turkish firm Enka and the Omani firm Bahwan.
The consortium was awarded a US$1.8 billion (Dh6.61bn) contract in 2010 to build the new terminal. About 2,000 workers are from India with the rest Bangladesh, Pakistan and the Philippines.
