Iran broadcasts alleged firing of surface-to-surface missile

TEHRAN // The Iranian defence minister, Ahmad Vahidi, said today that Iran has test fired a surface-to-surface missile, the Qiam, footage of which was shown on state television. The images showed the sand-colored Qiam blasting into the air from a desert terrain. Mr Vahidi announced the test firing of the missile but did not say when the launch took place. * AFP
