Saudi Arabia's Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Al Sheikh, the highest religious authority in the country, said that Muslim prayers during Ramadan and for the subsequent Eid Al Fitr feast should be performed at home if the coronavirus outbreak continues, Okaz newspaper reported on Friday.
"Ramadan's Taraweeh (evening) prayer can be performed at home if it cannot be performed at mosques due to the preventive measures taken to fight the spread of coronavirus," he said in response to a question, adding that same applies for Eid prayers, according to the paper.
The holy month of Ramadan is set to begin next week.
The country had issued a series of strict guidelines to help control the spread of the disease after it recorded 762 new cases and four deaths on Friday.
Saudi Arabia now has 7,142 active cases and 87 deaths.
The Health Ministry announced that 59 individuals have recovered during the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,049 cases.
More than 50 per cent of the 762 cases came as a result of medical testing on foreign workers, the ministry said.
“We are currently reaching out to the community and conducting mass testing within the most populated areas to control the transmission of the virus,” the ministry spokesman said during a press conference.
“These efforts have contributed to the discovery of approximately half of today’s acass and will increase the number of confirmed cases in the coming days,” said the spokesman.
Kuwait reported Friday 134 new cases and two more deaths.
The country now has a total of 1,685 infected cases and five deaths, health ministry spokesman Abdullah Al Sanad said during a press conference.
The two fatalities were a Kuwaiti citizen and an Iranian resident, Mr Al Sanad said.
Three patients have recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 258 across the country. The recovered patients will be transferred to a rehabilitation ward in the hospitals that they are in, he said.
It comes as Qatar reported its highest single day increase of infected cases.
The health ministry said that 560 people were infected during the last 24 hours, bringing total number to 4,663.
The ministry has also announced the recovery of 49 cases, taking the total to 464.
No new deaths were reported.
Oman said on Friday that 50 new cases were discovered during the last 24 hours, bringing the total amount to 1,069.
They include 26 Omanis and 24 expats.
The country has suffered five deaths since the outbreak of the disease in the region and 176 recoveries.
Authorities have urged the public to adhere to the measures imposed on them such as self-isolation and social distancing.

Studying addiction
This month, Dubai Medical College launched the Middle East’s first master's programme in addiction science.
Together with the Erada Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation, the college offers a two-year master’s course as well as a one-year diploma in the same subject.

What the law says
Micro-retirement is not a recognised concept or employment status under Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations (as amended) (UAE Labour Law). As such, it reflects a voluntary work-life balance practice, rather than a recognised legal employment category, according to Dilini Loku, senior associate for law firm Gateley Middle East.
“Some companies may offer formal sabbatical policies or career break programmes; however, beyond such arrangements, there is no automatic right or statutory entitlement to extended breaks,” she explains.
“Any leave taken beyond statutory entitlements, such as annual leave, is typically regarded as unpaid leave in accordance with Article 33 of the UAE Labour Law. While employees may legally take unpaid leave, such requests are subject to the employer’s discretion and require approval.”
If an employee resigns to pursue micro-retirement, the employment contract is terminated, and the employer is under no legal obligation to rehire the employee in the future unless specific contractual agreements are in place (such as return-to-work arrangements), which are generally uncommon, Ms Loku adds.

Where to donate in the UAE
You can donate to several registered charities through a “donation catalogue”. The use of the donation is quite specific, such as buying a fan for a poor family in Niger for Dh130.
The General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments
The site has an e-donation service accepting debit card, credit card or e-Dirham, an electronic payment tool developed by the Ministry of Finance and First Abu Dhabi Bank.
You can donate online or order Smiles n’ Stuff products handcrafted by Al Noor students. The centre publishes a wish list of extras needed, starting at Dh500.
Beit Al Khair Society has the motto “From – and to – the UAE,” with donations going towards the neediest in the country. Its website has a list of physical donation sites, but people can also contribute money by SMS, bank transfer and through the hotline 800-22554.
Dar Al Ber Society, which has charity projects in 39 countries, accept cash payments, money transfers or SMS donations. Its donation hotline is 800-79.
Dubai Cares provides several options for individuals and companies to donate, including online, through banks, at retail outlets, via phone and by purchasing Dubai Cares branded merchandise. It is currently running a campaign called Bookings 2030, which allows people to help change the future of six underprivileged children and young people.
Those who travel on Emirates have undoubtedly seen the little donation envelopes in the seat pockets. But the foundation also accepts donations online and in the form of Skywards Miles. Donated miles are used to sponsor travel for doctors, surgeons, engineers and other professionals volunteering on humanitarian missions around the world.
On the Emirates Red Crescent website you can choose between 35 different purposes for your donation, such as providing food for fasters, supporting debtors and contributing to a refugee women fund. It also has a list of bank accounts for each donation type.
Gulf for Good raises funds for partner charity projects through challenges, like climbing Kilimanjaro and cycling through Thailand. This year’s projects are in partnership with Street Child Nepal, Larchfield Kids, the Foundation for African Empowerment and SOS Children's Villages. Since 2001, the organisation has raised more than $3.5 million (Dh12.8m) in support of over 50 children’s charities.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the Noor Dubai Foundation a decade ago with the aim of eliminating all forms of preventable blindness globally. You can donate Dh50 to support mobile eye camps by texting the word “Noor” to 4565 (Etisalat) or 4849 (du).
