Reports: 120 al Qa'eda suspects detained in Turkey

News reports says Turkish police have rounded up 120 people suspected of ties to the al Qa'eda terror network.

ANKARA // News reports say Turkish police have rounded up 120 people suspected of ties to the al Qa'eda terror network. The state-run Anatolia news agency, quoting unnamed officials, said the suspects were detained in simultaneous raids in 16 provinces. The private NTV television channel said at least 120 people were taken away for questioning. Anatolia said those detained include a university faculty member in the eastern city of Van, suspected of recruiting students and other people and of sending them to Afghanistan for training.

Homegrown Islamic militants tied to the al Qa'eda network carried out suicide bombings in Istanbul, killing 58 people in 2003. However, al Qa'eda's austere and violent interpretation of Islam receives little public backing in Turkey. * AP

World Cut Steakhouse, Habtoor Palace Hotel, Dubai. On Thursday evening, head chef Diego Solis will be serving a high-end sounding four-course meal that features chestnut veloute with smoked duck breast, turkey roulade accompanied by winter vegetables and foie gras and pecan pie, cranberry compote and popcorn ice cream.
