Emiratis and residents were urged to avoid foreign travel as airports in the UAE stepped up checks on arriving passengers.

The UAE confirmed a new case of the novel coronavirus in a 17-year-old student on Thursday.

The death toll from the outbreak in Iran exceeded 3,500 on Thursday, with more than 100 deaths.

In the US, several states recorded their first cases of the virus on Thursday, as President Donald Trump sought again to reassure the American people that his government had the situation under control.
