Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, travelled to Addis Ababa for official talks on Friday with Dr Abiy Ahmad Ali, prime minister of Ethiopia.
The pair discussed bilateral ties including enhanced friendship and cooperation as well as regional and international matters.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed tweeted: “I was pleased today to arrive in Addis Ababa, a city of history, civilization and cultural diversity. I am even more delighted to enhance ties of friendship and cooperation between our countries.”
After the meeting it was announced that the United Arab Emirates would deposit $1 billion (Dh3.7bn) in Ethiopia’s central bank to ease foreign currency shortages in the Horn of Africa nation.
“$1 billion will be deposited in the National Bank (of Ethiopia) in a few days time to tackle the foreign currency shortage,” Ahmed Shide, head of Ethiopia’s Government Communications Affairs Office, told Reuters.
