Welcome, Ms Dahmani

Ahlan wa sahlan, nawwart al galb bhubbak - "Welcome to my life, you have enlightened my heart with your love" - is the first line of a very popular video starring an Emirati media personality. The song has attracted more than 99,000 views on YouTube. In the song, Wiam Dahmani, 24, performs Hindi dance moves with a man in imitation of Bollywood stars. Quite daring, to many.

Ms Dahmani has garnered both criticism and praise from her audience. She is described by her fans as a second Suad Hosni, the beauty symbol of Egyptian cinema. Others have criticised her for not wearing conservative clothing.

She is now an Arab face of Indian culture as the presenter of the TV programme 100% Bollywood on the Indian channel Zee Aflam, which specifically targets an Arabic audience. During her 22-minute show on Friday nights, Ms Dahmani copies many popular Hindi dance routines.

To many, she is a fascinating character. An environmental engineer by training, she became a star presenter on local TV channels and was nominated to present the prestigious Million's Poet show.

Her dream, however, is to be an actor and a singer. If she does make it big in Bollywood, we are sure she will do the country proud.
