DUBAI // Dheya, 16, will lose his left arm unless he has surgery to replace a nerve damaged when he was wounded by a stray bullet in Yemen.

The National publicised his plight last month but, so far, no donations have been received.

“Doctors told the family that if the operation is not done as soon as possible, it will be too late and Dheya will never be able to use his arm again,” Dar Al Ber Society said.

Dheya’s uncle, a Dubai resident, has spent most of his earnings to bring his nephew, Dheya’s younger brother, who has cancer, and their mother to the UAE.

“Thank God, I managed to get my sister and nephews safely to the UAE. The youngest is now getting treated for the cancer at a Dubai government hospital, and we are relieved that we managed to get him proper care.

“Our main concern now is saving Dheya’s arm. For a young, healthy boy to lose his arm is very difficult. If I could afford to pay for it myself, I would have done it immediately.”

The operation will cost Dh156,000, which the family cannot afford.
