DUBAI // An Emirati woman will spend three months in jail for threatening a countrywoman in a live broadcast on Instagram.

But Dubai Criminal Court acquitted the woman, 24, of issuing insults to the businesswoman, 45.

The businesswoman said the accused was a friend on Instagram. She said she logged into her account on February 22 at about 1am.

“She went live for more than a minute threatening to kill me and smash the entire restaurant [where she was at the time] if I ever spoke about her again and claiming that I pulled off her jacket and spread rumours about her,” said the businesswoman.

She said the woman had also threatened to smash a shisha pipe over her head and used foul language while speaking about her and her family.

But the court, which had access to the recording, ruled that the accused did not say “cursed be your father” before using immoral words when talking about the businesswoman’s mother, as was claimed.

Police claimed that during their interview the woman had admitted to threatening the businesswoman, whose friends all saw the video.
