ABU DHABI // A woman who was arrested along with several prostitutes has told the Appeals Court that she was only waiting for her son and his family to meet her.

PT, originally from Uzbekistan, said while she was waiting for her family, two Uzbek women approached her and asked her to translate for them as they were speaking to another man.

Two minutes later police arrested her and a number of other women, accusing them all of prostitution.

Her husband YA, a Jordanian, told the court that his wife was with him five minutes before the arrest.

“We went to pick up her 25-year-old son, his wife, and daughter to take them out for dinner.”

“Then as we were waiting I received a phone call from my company ‎to go and receive a cheque they owe me worth Dh250,000.”

“So my wife told me to drop her off to meet her son and choose a restaurant until I am done.”

When he returned he found his step-son looking for his mother.

“We kept asking around for her for two hours, then a taxi driver told us police arrived and arrested a number of women.”

Shaabiya police told them she was at the CID office.

PT was sentenced to deportation by the First instance Court.

Her defence lawyer said her entire family would be destroyed if she was deported.

“She is a married woman and has children, she does not need to do such a thing.”

“The deportation order followed the main crime, but she did not do anything, she only translated for the two women, so police took her with them.”

Her husband added that she suffers from a uterus condition and is unable to have sexual intercourse.

The court ordered her release, and will announce a verdict on Sunday, February 8.
