DUBAI // A woman is accused of sending a threatening text message to a man, telling him his days were numbered and that his wife was as good as dead, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Thursday.
Prosecutors told the court that in July 2012, Croatian A S, 42, sent a text message to S P, a 60-year-old Danish dentist, saying: “I will end your life and your wife’s, your life is short now and your wife is as good as dead.” After sending the message, she asked the dentist for money.
S P said in records that he had been friends with the defendant since 2010, and in 2012 she had been going through difficult times.
“She had financial problems and asked for money. I gave her [money] several times but then she started taking advantage of the situation and asking for more money, so I refused to give her [any more],” the dentist said. He said she threatened him after the rejection.
Prosecutors attached a copy of the message sent by the defendant, who told the court that she had said during interrogations that she was not certain whether she sent the message or not.
In court, A S said she did send a text message to the victim but denied that it contained any threatening words. “I just asked him for financial help because we are friends,” she said.
A verdict is expected on July 14.
