UAE joins UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space

ABU DHABI // The UAE on Saturday became a member of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

The UN’s Fourth Committee of the General Assembly, which decides on annual resolutions with regards to international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space, adopted the UAE as a member.

Last month, the country also become the first in the region to join the International Space Exploration Coordination Group, and has plans to send a research probe to Mars by 2021.

Established in 1959, the 84-member COPUOS governs the exploration and use of space for peace, security and development.
