DUBAI // Three men were sentenced to three years in jail each for possessing more than 155kg of drugs.

Dubai Criminal Court heard that EE, 36, MY, 30, and HE, 41, all from Turkey, intended to sell the amphetamine tablets, though they denied charges against them in November last year.

Police anti-narcotics captain AL, 38, said he was among the team tasked with arresting the defendants after receiving a tip-off.

“We raided a flat in Naif, where the men were caught red-handed as they arranged the tablets into boxes. We also found cash in the apartment,” said AL, who added that EE is a known international drug dealer.

The captain said the three defendants were wearing plastic gloves and were placing thousands of tablets in various boxes and bags.

HE confessed during questioning and said he was promised US$15,000 (Dh55,100) in return for keeping the drugs for a while.

Each defendant was fined Dh50,000 and all three will be deported after serving their jail terms.
