UMM AL QUWAIN // A 65-year-old Emirati woman died in a four-vehicle pile-up at exit 113 of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road in Umm Al Quwain.

Her 40-year-old son and her maid suffered injuries in the collision and were transferred to Ras Al Khaimah hospital, according to Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister publication of The National.

Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Obaid Bin Aran, head of Traffic and Patrols at UAQ Police, said officers received a report of at crash at 3.30pm on Thursday.

Police and ambulance crews attended and found that the motorist who caused the accident had not left enough space between vehicles, which led him to collide with three other vehicles that were slowly driving into a diversion installed by the Ministry of Public Works for maintenance purposes on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.
