Two dead after car collides with camels on RAK road

RAS AL KHAIMAH // Two men died and a third sustained serious injuries when their vehicle collided with four camels on a road in Ras Al Khaimah.

The crash was reported to police at 5:30am on Saturday, said Brigadier Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, director general of Central Operations at RAK Police.

Witnesses say they saw a shepherd trying to stop oncoming traffic so that his camels could cross the road, but one vehicle travelling at high speed came from behind and collided with the animals, killing all four.

The driver, a 28-year-old Emirati, and a passenger, a 32-year-old Comoros Island passport holder, died while a second passenger, another Comoros Island passport holder in his 20s, sustained serious injuries.

Brigadier Al Humaidi extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and urged all motorists to comply with traffic regulations, respect speed limits and be careful on the roads. He also called upon owners of roaming animals to keep them away from main roads to prevent any accidents.
