DUBAI // A toddler was killed when his father accidentally ran him over while reversing his car at home in Fujairah.
The year-old boy, Mohammed, died on December 13 after running away from a maid at the family’s home. He was hit by his father’s car as he was backing it out of a parking space.
The child was taken to Dibba hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Major Saeed Al Hassani from Fujairah police. He called on people to be extra cautious when driving close to homes especially when young children are nearby.
Salem Al Khideme, director of Masafi Public Prosecution, said the father will not be charged in connection with the death.
This is the fifth accident in the Northern Emirates this year in which a child has been killed by a reversing car.
A 16-month-old Emirati boy died in Ras Al Khaimah after his aunt reversed her car over him at their home on November 5. The boy was taken to hospital but died before arriving.
An eight-year-old boy died in Al Maamoura, Ras Al Khaimah, on October 12 when his 28-year-old brother accidentally ran him over. The brother was reversing when he hit the child.
On October 2, a Pakistani girl, aged 1, died in Ajman after being accidentally run over in front of her home by her cousin. Ajman Police said at the time that they had launched an investigation into the incident.
On September 30, a toddler was killed as her cousin drove away from an Ajman home.
